Abstract

In this study, the characteristics of current and wind forces acting on two floating bodies are numerically investigated by using a commercial CFD software, STAR-CCM+. In the numerical analyses, LNGC is located right behind FSRU under the uniform current or wind conditions. Steady calculations with Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) solver and realized k-epsilon model were carried out. Firstly, current coefficients of FSRU only by CFD are compared with model testing data. Through the comparison, present numerical models and mesh systems are indirectly verified. Next, computations for FSRU and LNGC in uniform current are performed with different relative positions. It is found that current coefficients are largely affected by the longitudinal positions. Finally, wind forces acting on FSRU and LNGC in tandem configurations are studied. Focus is made on the shielding effects due to aerodynamic interactions between FSRU and LNGC.niform current or wind conditions.
