KRISO, recertified as Excellent Safety Management Laboratory

- Achieving the best of both worlds, advanced safety and testing capabilities -

□ On the 19th, the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO led by President Booki Kim) announced that the institute's Equipment and Materials Reliability Testing Laboratory was recertified as an Excellent Safety Management Laboratory for 2020 by the Ministry of Science and ICT, following the last certification issued in 2018.

□ The excellent safety management laboratory certification program, which was launched by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2013, aims to strengthen the ability of science and technology laboratories in universities or research institutes to operate autonomous safety management while promoting the use of standard models for safety management.

□ To be certified as an Excellent Safety Management Laboratory, a laboratory must receive a score of 80 points or higher on average in the 29 criteria, including safe environment systems and safe environment activities, with no accidents for the past two years. The certification process involves document examination and field assessment; final decisions are made through deliberation and vote by the certification committee.

□ The Equipment and Materials Reliability Testing Laboratory of KRISO serves to perform R&D activities and tests & analysis of the pressure resistance performance and environmental and safety aspects of equipment and materials for shipbuilding, off-shore, and deep-sea plants, as well as maritime equipment. To this end, the laboratory has established and implemented systematic strategies and objectives regarding safety management. In recognition of its contribution to proactively identifying and improving safety hazards and providing training to promote a safety mindset, the laboratory was previously selected as an Excellent Safety Management Laboratory in 2018.

□ Also, the reliability of the laboratory in performing testing and evaluation was internationally recognized when it was selected as the country's only KOLAS accredited laboratory in underwater pressure resistance testing. With this recertification, the Equipment and Materials Reliability Testing Laboratory of KRISO has consolidated its position as a reputable and trustworthy laboratory with superior expertise in testing and evaluation while putting safety first.
