KRISO Receives Government Awards on 27th Day of the Sea

▶ Principal Researcher Dongho Jung receives Industrial Service Medal for contribution to development of LNG bunkering vessel

▶ 1 Industrial Service Medal, 1 Prime Minister’s Citation, and 3 Citations from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries



□ Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean engineering (hereinafter KRISO, President Booki Kim) announced on the 9th that its employees have been awarded 1 Industrial Service Medal, 1 Prime Minister’s Citation, and 3 Citations from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries  on the 27th Day of the Sea.


□ The Day of the Sea (May 31st) is a national day of commemoration designated to promote the importance of the ocean and boost the morale of professionals in oceans and fisheries industries.




□ At the 27th Day of the Sea ceremony held at the Cruise Terminal of Busan Port International Passenger Terminal on May 31st, Senior Director Dongho Jung of the Offshore Platform Research Division (Head, Offshore Platform Research Division) was awarded an Industrial Service Medal for his role in developing Korea’s first LNG bunkering vessel and guidelines for bunkering as the head of the LNG bunkering vessel development project.


□ Deep Ocean Engineering Research Center Senior Researcher Seunghoon Oh, who also participated in the project, was awarded a Prime Minister's Citation for his research on safety evaluation and resistance prediction for the LNG bunkering vessel, which contributed to the advancement of LNG bunkering vessel technology. 




□ Citations from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries were awarded to Marine Renewable Energy Research Division Principal Researcher Kyonghwan Kim, Alternative Fuels and Power System Research Division Senior Researcher Hyunseok Kim, and Eunchan Lee, Staff at the Research Management Center for developing Korea’s first floating wave-offshore wind hybrid power generation platform, Korea’s first liquid hydrogen fuel tank for ships, and system for planning, selecting, managing and evaluating key projects at KRISO respectively.


□ KRISO is an institution under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the only government-funded research institute in the domestic ships and offshore plant sector. KRISO, headquartered in Daejeon with regional research centers in Goseong, Geoje, and Busan, conducts research on the development, application, and commercialization of source technologies in the fields of eco-friendly/autonomous ships, offshore plants/ocean energy, marine safety, and marine systems.
