| dc.description.abstract | According to the OPRC-HNS 2000 (Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation-hazardous and noxious substances, 2000) Protocol, HNS are defined as any chemicals, other than oil, that exhibit the potential to degrade the environment, pollute the oceans, or pose a threat to human health and marine ecosystems. As HNS production rises in tandem with the advancement of the petrochemical industry and the escalating prevalence of maritime cargo transportation via larger vessels, the risk of potential HNS spills concomitantly rises. Evaporative HNS contains hazardous chemicals that pose a threat to human life and can cause serious adverse effects when accumulated in the human body over extended periods. . In this study, we present experimental and detection results for evaporative HNS spills in outdoor marine pools using multispectral sensors. The field experiment was conducted at Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (CEDRE), Brest, France, from July 21 to 26, 2024. The pool, which measures 20 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and 2 meters in depth, was utilized for the experiment. For the HNS measurements, the SIMAGAZ multispectral sensor, developed by the National office for aerospace studies and research (ONERA), was utilized. | - |
