KRISO to develop shipbuilding and marine industrial technology with partners

- MOU signed on development of future shipbuilding and marine industrial technology including technology for eco-friendly, autonomous ships -

 

□ On April 23, the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (President Booki Kim, hereinafter “KRISO”) signed an agreement on cooperation for the development of future shipbuilding and marine industrial technology at Ulsan City Hall.


□ Besides KRISO, the list of participating partners included Ulsan Metropolitan City (Mayor Chul-ho Song), Hyundai Heavy Industries (President & CEO Young-seuk Han), the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (President Yonghoon Lee), the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (President Myung Joon Kim), the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (President Nak Gyu Lee), and the Ulsan IT Industry Promotion Agency (President Gwang-su Jang).


□ The agreement allows institutes to jointly adapt to changes in the age of the fourth industrial revolution, and promotes mutual cooperation in research for the development of the maritime industry. The institutes will cooperate to △secure research competence for next-generation shipbuilding and maritime technology including eco-friendly and autonomous ship technology, establish infrastructure with stronger industrial competitiveness, △strategically foster and stimulate the shipbuilding and marine industry in Ulsan, and △discover new business and research opportunities for the future shipbuilding and marine industry.


□ Through the agreement, KRISO has secured a cooperative network for the development of future shipbuilding and marine technology, including technology for eco-friendly and autonomous ships. Based on its outstanding research infrastructure and personnel, the institute is expected to play a leading role in the development of future-oriented advanced ships.


□ Booki Kim, the president of KRISO, said, “KRISO has established the Alternative Fuels and Power System Research Center and Autonomous Ship Business Group to begin full-fledged development of maritime technology. By working closely with partner institutes and conducting joint research, we will foster new marine industries and create more jobs.”
