KRISO will remain as KOLAS-certified internationally accredited testing institute until 2022

- Has successfully adjusted its operating system to conform to the revised international standards -

□ On the 29th, the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO led by President Booki Kim) announced that the institute had been certified for compliance with the revised international standards in the re-accreditation evaluation of internationally accredited testing institutes by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS).

□ This re-accreditation evaluation was conducted to respond to the 2019 revision of the domestic standards, following the 2017 revision of the international standards. To this end, KRISO adjusted its testing system to conform to the revised standards, and then the conformity of the adjusted testing system was certified by KOLAS, allowing KRISO to maintain its position as an internationally accredited testing institute.

□ KOLAS certifies internationally accredited testing institutes by evaluating the conformity of its quality management system, facilities, equipment, and technology levels to the international standards (ISO/IEC 17025) and the domestic standards (KS Q ISO/IEC 17025).

□ Any test reports issued by internationally accredited testing institutes are mutually recognized by the 104 state members and 102 organizations under the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC MRA) to be as equally valid as those accredited and issued by the ILAC MRA.

□ Upon this re-accreditation, KRISO will be able to continue with its conformity evaluation on a total of ten test items, including six items in underwater pressure resistance testing; two items in corrosion testing that were additionally certified last year; and two items in metal property testing.

□ Booki Kim, the President of KRISO, said, "As an internationally accredited testing institute, KRISO will continue to strengthen the infrastructure that supports our conformity evaluation of ships and off-shore plants and further expand the scope of conformity test items by developing new test methods and specifications going forward.

□ Since it was recognized as Korea's first internationally accredited testing institute in underwater pressure resistance testing in May 2014, KRISO has been continuously expanding the scope of its testing services; for example, the institute was additionally certified for four test items in 2019.
