KRISO discussed measures to overcome maritime challenges at Kormarine Conference

- Participated in Kormarine Conference 2020 in Busan on the 17th -


□ The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO led by President Booki Kim) participated in the Kormarine Conference 2020 held in Busan on the 17th to discuss international cooperation and R&D activities to overcome difficult issues in the marine sector, as well as recent important issues in the maritime industry, including measures to respond to regulations on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.


□ This year marked the seventh anniversary of the Kormarine Conference, which is one of the country's leading conferences on the shipbuilding and maritime industries. This year, the conference was held in different regions where different subjects were dealt with. A total of four sessions were held, in which experts shared their opinions about the future of the maritime industry and discussed strategies to maximize its growth potential. Two sessions were held in Incheon on the 12th, while the other two were in Busan on the 17th.


□ At the conference sessions, held in Busan on the 17th, Tae Hwan Joung, the head of the International Maritime Research Center of KRISO, chaired a session named "International Cooperation and R&D to Overcome the Maritime Challenges" to discuss recent maritime issues, including ▲ How Collaboration can Drive the Decarbonization of Shipping (Kasper Søgaard, Global Maritime Forum, Head of Research), ▲ Trends and Prospects of Research and Development of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (Sun Young Kim, KRISO, Principal Researcher), ▲ Challenges in the Development of Maritime Autonomous Ships Accelerated by COVID-19 (Hyung Ju Kim, University of South-Eastern Norway, Professor), and ▲ Policy Directions and Implications for responding to the Recent IMO Greenhouse Gas Regulations (Han Seon Park, Korea Maritime Institute, Research Fellow).


□ In the session held in Incheon on the 12th, Seong Jong Han, the Head of the Offshore R&BD Center of KRISO, gave an in-depth presentation on the maritime hydrogen supply chain.


□ At the conference, Booki Kim, the President of KRISO, said, "I hope that this Kormarine Conference serves as a special venue to discuss measures to implement the decarbonization of shipping and overcome maritime challenges via international cooperation. I also look forward to seeing more and more maritime experts paying close attention to and engaging themselves in R&D activities to ensure maritime safety and better marine environments."
