- Signed an MOU on cooperation in eco-friendly ship and autonomous ship technology -

□ In the afternoon of the 26th, the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO led by President Booki Kim) and the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA led by CEO Yeon-Seung Lee) gathered at the office building of KOMSA in Sejong-si to discuss strengthening mutual cooperation.

□ The two parties signed an MOU in an attempt to increase mutual cooperation so that they can better embrace next-generation technologies, such as eco-friendly ships and autonomous ships, and respond to international regulations on ships and maritime activities in a more proactive manner. The signing ceremony was attended by seven personnel, including Booki Kim, President of KRISO, and Yeon-Seung Lee, CEO of KOMSA.

□ KRISO proposed cooperation strategies for both parties with regards to multiple research projects on autonomous ships, eco-friendly ships, and e-Nav, a smart maritime traffic and information service, which the institute had worked on as its flagship businesses. In the meantime, KOMSA proposed cooperation strategies while putting an emphasis on preventing maritime accidents, preparing IMO agenda items, and promoting international cooperation activities.

□ The MOU mainly concerns ▲ cooperation in commercializing eco-friendly ship and safety technology, ▲ cooperation in developing autonomous ship technology and related solutions, and ▲ mutual cooperation in identifying new agenda items to lead the international maritime sector and conducting joint research activities.

□ Booki Kim, the President of KRISO, said, "The shipbuilding and maritime industry is now facing a paradigm shift toward being more eco-friendly and smarter, as a proactive response to environmental regulations to be imposed by the IMO. We will devote ourselves to identifying new agenda items and conducting joint research to better respond to this rapidly, ever-changing global environment by combining KRISO's R&D capabilities with years of field experience and expertise of KOMSA."

□ The two parties will work to strengthen mutual cooperation in the use of available information and resources and the identification and implementation of joint research activities by forming and operating a working-level consultative body to ensure the efficient implementation of the agreement and facilitate consultation so that they will be able to better respond to international regulations on ships and maritime activities in a more proactive manner.
