KRISO Discusses Cooperation With Norway in Autonomous Ship Technology

▶ KRISO, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Seoul, and Innovation Norway hold online workship on autonomous ships on the 17th

▶ Sharing information on autonomous ship R&D activities in the two countries, discussing future cooperation in sea trials, development of shore control center and international standards

□ The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean engineering (President Booki Kim, hereinafter KRISO) on the 17th held an online Korea-Norway Autonomous Ship Workshop with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Seoul and Innovation Norway.

□ This workshop was attended by experts from various sectors related to autonomous ship technology and international standards development, the focus of the 4th industrial revolution in the maritime sector.

□ The arrival of the 4th industrial revolution is bringing about digital transformation and the rapid spread of convergent information and communications technologies in all industries worldwide.

□ In the maritime sector, a new generation of advanced ships with high added value are starting to emerge. Autonomous ships are being touted as a rising future industry that will change the paradigm of maritime logistics, revolutionizing not only the shipping industry but related industries such as ports and shipbuilding as well.

□ To stay ahead of such changes in the domestic and global industrial environment, KRISO partnered with Norway, a leading nation in autonomous ship technology, to hear from experts on various related fields and discuss the current state of technology in both countries as well as areas for future cooperation.

□ There was also an expert discussion on sea trials, shore control centers and the development of international standards in relation to autonomous ships.

□ With accumulated expertise in autonomous ship technology, unmanned ship development and verification, KRISO will implement a strategy of pre-emptive response to the development of autonomous ship technologies that will shape the future of the maritime industry.
