- Abstract
- Although Screw propeller is prevalently used as a propulsion system of Unmanned Underwater Vehicle but is generally underestimated in designing propulsion system of small UUV because of its relatively higher expense of designing and manufacturing than that of the other sub systems. We eventually found the way of adopting a propeller at a low cost as a main propulsion system of ISIMI AUV of MOERI. There are plenty of scale model propellers in MOERI those are adequate to small UUV. Some candidates adequate in size were investigated from their open water test(POW) data. It was impossible to test the small UUV attached to the towing tank carriage especially to PMM apparatus because of its small size. We have established the way of validation of the propulsion performance of samll UUV equipped with the selected propeller by a free running test in Ocean Engineering Square Tank at MOERI.
